Pleading the Blood of Jesus Is it Right or Wrong?
Pleading the Blood of Jesus – Is it Right or Wrong?
Many people in the Charismatic and Pentecostal camp love to “plead the Blood of Jesus” over themselves and others and everything for that matter, turning the blood of Jesus into a magic ritual of sorts, a magic wand that will protect you from evil, cleanse you, heal or deliver you. Pleading the Blood of Jesus is not biblical. No where in the bible does Jesus tell you to plead His Blood over yourself. No where in the bible does anyone plead the Blood of Jesus over themselves or others. This teaching is taught in churches and you read in many books that you need to cover yourself with the blood of Jesus for protection 24/7 as though it’s the biblical thing to do. It’s not and here is why.
In the Old Testament the High Priest would sacrifice a Lamb and put the blood on the Altar in the Holy of Holies.
Hebrews 9:7-8: “7 But into the second went the high priest alone once every year, not without blood, which he offered for himself, and for the errors of the people: 8 The Holy Ghost this signifying, that the way into the holiest of all was not yet made manifest, while as the first tabernacle was yet standing:
Leviticas 1:5: “and the priests, Aaron’s sons, shall bring the blood and sprinkle the blood all around on the altar that is by the door of the tabernacle of meeting.”
Leviticas 4:6: “The priest shall dip his finger in the blood and sprinkle some of the blood seven times before the LORD, in front of the veil of the sanctuary.”
Leviticas 4:30: “Then the priest shall take some of its blood with his finger, put it on the horns of the altar of burnt offering.”
The blood was applied from the animal and it was required that the animal had to die, and give its life. The Blood represents life, the life of Jesus Christ that had to die for our sins. Jesus is the Lamb that had to die. Jesus Christ fulfilled the Passover Lamb. To have the blood applied on the altar was so that one would not receive the judgment of God as He would passover you.
Exod.12:13 “And when I see the blood, I will pass over you; and the plague shall not be on you to destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt.”
The animals blood was also not moved around and sprinkled all over the place or on this person or that person outside of the temple by the High Priest, it was for the Altar area alone. We can not touch His blood or apply it to anything ‘spiritually’ as we are not the High Priest. Jesus Christ is now our High Priest and He is the sacrificed Lamb. Jesus is the one who after he ascended into Heaven sprinkled His blood on the Mercy Seat of the Altar before God, not us. The blood of Jesus is applied to our lives only when we believe in faith in Jesus Christ to receive His Atonement.
Eph.1:7 “7 In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;” and Colossians. 1:14
Pleading the Blood of Jesus is not magical
Jesus’ blood is not magic, it holds no magical power. The Blood of Jesus refers to his sacrificial death. Jesus had to die for our sins by crucifixion. And God accepted his death as His blood was spilled on the altar. Jesus said “It is Finished” (John 19:30) before He died, there was no more need to sacrifice an animal, he fulfilled the law.
Rom.5:8: “8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
Heb.9:15 “15 And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance.”
Rom.5:10: “10 For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.”
1 Cor.15:3: “3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;”
Phil 2:8: “8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.”
Those who touched Jesus’ body and blood when they took Him off the cross did not receive holiness or any powers or healing, nor did they plead the blood over themselves for protection. However, after Jesus rose from the dead, after He came out of the tomb. He encountered Mary and he said to her “Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father”
John 20:17 17 Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.”
When He ascended to heaven he entered into the Holy of Holies, sprinkled His precious blood upon the Mercy Seat on the Altar before the throne of God, and forever settled the sin question, and delivered us from the curse of the law. This is clearly taught in the New testament.
Hebrews 9:12 “Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.”
In the Old Testament they had to make a sin offering on an ongoing basis, but Jesus came to make one sacrifice for us, one offering, and His blood was sprinkled once in the temple on the Mercy Seat in heaven.
Hebrews 9:24-26 24 For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us: 25 Nor yet that he should offer himself often, as the high priest entereth into the holy place every year with blood of others; 26 For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.
Today the only thing we do with Jesus’s body (bread) and blood (wine) is to have communion – it is solely a reminder, nothing more, just as it was celebrated as a feast after the original Passover in the Old Testament, we do not cover ourselves with the Blood of Jesus.
Ex.12:14. “14 And this day shall be unto you for a memorial; and ye shall keep it a feast to the Lord throughout your generations; ye shall keep it a feast by an ordinance for ever.”
1 Cor.5:7 “7 Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us:”
In the Old Testament, the Passover blood was applied only once to the door, and in doing so God passed over them and ultimately released the Israelites from slavery in Egypt. They could not touch the blood, they had to use the hyssop plant and dip into the blood and apply it to the door. In the New Testament the Blood sacrifice of Jesus Christ is applied only once to cover and release us that believe by faith in Jesus from sin. When you are covered by the Blood of Jesus, God does not see your sin; it continually cleanses you; the Blood of Jesus washes away your sin. Rev. 1:5: “To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood,”
And it does not have to be reapplied over and over as if it somehow loses strength. Jesus blood is applied once to the Mercy Seat in the Holy of Holies in the temple in heaven. In the below verse the bible shows us that when we get saved, Jesus’ blood that is sprinkled in heaven sprinkles our hearts from an evil conscience (Hebrews 10:20-22) and we are redeemed “through the blood of the everlasting covenant” (Heb. 13:20)
Hebrews 10:20-22
20 By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh; 21 And having an high priest over the house of God; 22 Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water
1 John 1:7-9 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. 8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Col. 1:20 20 And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.
Heb. 13:20. 20 Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant,
You can’t spiritually plead the blood of Jesus or cover unbelievers with the Blood of Jesus in order that they one day become saved. Jesus’ blood is a once off washing way of our sin and not a repetitive act of sacrifice like they did in the Old Testament. We do not touch the blood of Jesus Christ, only Jesus can do that when it was applied once to the Mercy Seat in Heaven. When we are born again, we are baptised by the Holy Spirit, and our hearts are instantly sprinkled with the blood of Jesus Christ, that we can now came into God’s presence once and for all and have an eternal relationship with Jesus Christ, where Jesus Christ becomes our advocate with God the Father.
1 John 2:1 “My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous”
Heb.10:19-22: “Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh, and having a High Priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.”

OMW – I never thought of it this way. Thank you for opening my eyes. I got a question Deborah “Can Satan heal? Yes he can.?” Can he really heal? I always believed he is a destroyer.
Sonja,
Yes indeed, Satan is a destroyer – a destroyer of souls and not necessarily of the body. He is capable of healing but always with an intent to destroy the soul.
Dear Sonia
Yes he can heal but the healing is never complete. There is always something wrong afterwards. For instance I saw a video of a boy that was deaf healed by a false teacher…The boy had no ear and the opening to the ear canal was totally closed. When he was ‘healed’ his ear never grew back and the ear cabal did not open, yet the boy could suddenly hear. This is a false healing. Jesus Christ would have given he boy an ear and opened the ear canal. Satan’s healing are always incomplete and they are not instant…They take time to heal. He does just enough to make the person who got healed follow after the false teacher and his teachings in other words follow after Satan. Jesus Christ heals completely and instantly. Also with a demonic healing you just don’t know what else comes with the healing. Usually a demonic affliction. He wants your soul. That is what important to him. Because of people’s disobedience to God they seek false teachers and their teachings and they hand their souls over to Satan in exchange for healing.
Thank you Tom and Deborah. I honestly never knew…..
Tom is your surname Norvell?
Hi Sonja,
My surname is Lessing.
Hi Sonia
In fact here is an example from the bible. A woman was bent over double for 18 years and could not stand up. A demonic spirit caused this. Luke 13:11. If Satan can cause illness and deformity he can certainly heal illness and deformity.
Hello me again.
How can pure evil do good? satan is evil why would he wanto do good. to deceive? I tried searching for scripture but have not succeeded yet. please can you help 🙂
Have a super day hope to hear from you.
Hi Sonja,
If pure evil cannot do good then we need to ask why this verse was included in Scripture.
Satan is quite capable to transform himself and his disciples into ministers of righteousness.
Also consider this passage in Scripture.
She was telling the truth which is a good thing but Paul, realizing it was an evil spirit who empowered her to tell the truth, exorcised it.
Hi Sonja
Here is another time where a demon tells the truth…
Mark 5:1-20
5 Then they came to the other side of the sea, to the country of the Gadarenes. 2 And when He had come out of the boat, immediately there met Him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit, 3 who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no one could bind him,[b] not even with chains, 4 because he had often been bound with shackles and chains. And the chains had been pulled apart by him, and the shackles broken in pieces; neither could anyone tame him. 5 And always, night and day, he was in the mountains and in the tombs, crying out and cutting himself with stones.
6 When he saw Jesus from afar, he ran and worshiped Him. 7 And he cried out with a loud voice and said, “What have I to do with You, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I implore You by God that You do not torment me.”
8 For He said to him, “Come out of the man, unclean spirit!” 9 Then He asked him, “What is your name?”
Here we can see the demon in the man worshiping Jesus and proclaiming the truth, that Jesus Christ is the Son of the Most High God. If the demon was only capable of evil it should have lied.
Thank you 🙂
When the angel of death passed over Eygpt that one dreadful night and killed all the first born it was the blood of the lamb that saved the Children of Israel. God told Moses to tell them to put the blood on their lamp posts and front door. I don’t know about pleading the blood but I do know that if the angel of death does not see the blood on you…you will die. The angel of death touches people everyday…every night and all in between. The blood is the only thing that protects you.
Hi Lisa
Only Jesus has authority over Life and Death. He determines your end this is what I believe. The blood on the doors was in the Old Testament and I do believe that it happened. And yes Jesus did bleed for our sins but I believe its Jesus that saves us and determines our destiny and not His Blood. Lately I have been looking at things way easier not always looking for things behind things. Hope you know what I mean. I always wanted some almost like “ritual” have to do something to know yes my house is blessed so I paint olive oil ets (hope I am making sense) . its actually much easier and simpler I gathered from this site. thanx dtw for that.
Thank you Sonja for your comment, you are right…
Jesus says: Rev 1:18 “I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.”

With due respect, this is a dangerous statement to make. We dare not follow our own insights but must always go to the Bible in order to come to the correct conclusions. What does the Bible say about the blood?
If Jesus’ blood does not cleanse us from all sin and unrighteousness, we will never go to heaven. Why? Because Jesus said:
Why can’t they come where He is? (he refers here to a destination which is his abode in heaven). Because, by their own choice they die in their sins without ever having desired Him to cleanse them of their sins.
As you can see, Jesus’ blood plays a major part in the determination of your destination. You used the word destiny which I am not too keen on using because it suggests that Jesus mapped out every individual’s life and there is nothing one can do about it. Hence the much used phrase “if it’s your time to go (to die), then it’s your time to go.” This is fatalism and reminds of the Eastern mystic belief in karma. It is the kind of thing Calvinists believe in, to such an extent that they say even the typo errors of a secretary was predestined by God. Really? Can tippex and the backspace and delete buttons on a computer keyboard nullify God’s sovereign decrees?
The reality is that neither Jesus nor his blood determine your destiny here on earth.
If Jesus determined our destiny (what happens with and to us here on earth) then we don’t have a free-will.
now I too am very confused… I try and look at things differently and try not to over analyse cause I believe the Gospel should be easier to understand. But now I will need to first read through your comments a few times. Thank you Tom 🙂
HI Sonja,
Please don’t think I am trying to confuse you and please take the liberty to ask me what is is you do not understand in my previous comment. We are here to help one another.
Hi Sonja
Salvation is very simple 🙂 But the bible is actually very complicated and needs to be understood correctly, otherwise people can come along and make all sorts of evil doctrines out of it to suit themselves.
You are a very young Christian and you are learning 🙂 But you have MUCH to learn and be thankful, because the Holy Spirit is going to teach you and lead you into ALL truth. And how does He does this? He shows you the truth in scripture.
Don’t feel confused Sonja, this is your time to start learning, like all genuine Christians have to 🙂 ok? Make sense now?
If you don’t understand something, please please ask, we will help you for sure. I never had anyone to help me when I first got saved, I spent 3 years reading everything I could get my hands on, sifting through truth and error guided by the Holy Spirit, you have the Holy Spirit and you have us to help you now 🙂
Where is the Blood of Jesus Christ right at this moment???
Joy
>> Where is the Blood of Jesus Christ right at this moment???
Did you read the article?
All born again believers are covered by the blood of Jesus.
Tom wrote:
Amen! “Moses then took the blood, sprinkled it on the people and said, ‘This is the blood of the covenant that the Lord has made with you in accordance with all these words'” (Exodus 24:8).
Dear Pat
It appers you are under the old covenant and prefer that Moses sprinkle you with sacrifical blood than be under the New Covenant and have Jesus Christ sprinkle your heart with His blood.
Hi Pat,
Can you show us from Scripture where any of the twelve apostles and Paul taught that we should plead the blood of Christ over us?
Revelation 12:11 does not teach us to plead the blood over us for protection. In fact, the ones referred to in this verse are Christians who are going to be killed by Antichrist during the seven year tribulation. Moreover, God is going to give him (Antichrist) the power to overcome and kill the saints. (Revelation 13:7). What kind of protection is that? The context here is that they overcame the devil as their accuser before God which they accomplished with the blood of Christ (their salvation) and the word of their testimony (telling Satan to get behind them because Christ Jesus has already paid the price for their salvation by his blood). It does not mean that they pleaded the blood for their protection.
Good discussion here.
Appreciate the Scriptural references that corrected and dislodged the false teaching I’ve naively accepted.
On doing some follow along reading in my new NKJ Open Bible published by Thomas Nelson, I discovered in the footnotes on 1 John 1:9 the term ” pleading the blood”. It disturbs me that the term is used if its not biblical. Considering exchanging it.
Dear Terri
That is very interesting. I’m gonna chech it out. Thank you.
Dear Deborah.
a good book to help you check things out is; “New Age Bible Versions” by G A Riplinger.
This book highlights the subtle ways Satan has changed the original wording of the Authorised Version of the King James Bible to bring in the One World religion. “The book is the result of an exhaustive six year collation of new bible versions, their underlying Greek manuscripts, editions and editors. It objectively and methodically documents the hidden alliance between new versions and the New Age Movement’s One World Religion” (from the back cover)
I was amazed at the changes
Dear Fred
Thank you for this info, I will look into this for sure.
I noticed Fred mention Gail Riplinger, and that rang alarm bells for me. Her book “New Age Bible Versions” basically promotes KJV-onlyism through falsehoods and faulty logic. She has advertised herself as one who has expertise in the ancient Hebrew and Greek that the Scriptures were written, and in textual criticism, but apparently her only area of expertise is in interior design (how relevant!). The book was released in 1993 I think, and since then many people have sadly been deceived through it, as Fred looks like he may have. Just wanted to give anyone a heads up as this is an issue that has done much damage to the body of Christ.
Ahhhh thanks JW for the info on that.
Happy to be of any assistance 🙂

Interesting note that the demon didn’t lie…that’s easy, God says where there is light, there can be no darkness.. so when the demon seen the light of the world—he couldn’t lie…
