Finally I got pictures of the huge billboard outside of Rhema Church in Randburg pastored by Pastor Ray McCauley. In fact for all those signs and wonders seekers out there, this is a SIGN just for you. Beware of what Rhema Church preaches…
So what do we have here.
- Yes, YOU can do anything you want *
- * With a little help from GOD
- Believe, belong, become Rhema
So God is not really needed anymore, because YOU can become Rhema.
Rhema means:
- A Greek word that means any spoken word having a definite meaning.
- Greek: “word” – derived from the verb “to speak.”
So Rhema means Word or Spoken Word
Who IS the Word?
John 1:14 “And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.”
Jesus Christ the Son of God IS THE WORD.
Testing to see if Rhema Church tells the Truth and preaches Jesus Christ the only begotten Son of God?
1 John 4:2 “By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God;”
If anyone denies that Jesus Christ has NOT come in the flesh they are NOT from GOD.
So lets re-cap:
1) YOU can do anything.
2) With very little help from GOD.
3) Because YOU can become the WORD.
4) YOU can transcend and become GOD.
5) JESUS CHRIST is the WORD
5) YOU can replaced “JESUS CHRIST THE WORD MADE FLESH” with YOURSELF (a mere human).
6) Because JESUS CHRIST IS the ONLY SON of GOD made flesh, YOU DENY JESUS CHRIST if you follow and accept this occult teaching.
** Notice that YOU and GOD are both in capital letters on the sign board.
So Rhema has finally exposed themselves good and truly and are full blown into New Age / Occult / Contemplative Spirituality where YOU can become GOD.
If you are following this satanic teaching (known or unbeknown to you), REPENT, ask JESUS CHRIST the ONLY SON of GOD to forgive you and get back on the narrow path.
Thank you Rhema for spending all that money on that gigantic sign board, it must have been expensive. But I tell you, it was worth every cent because it’s a sign to those who are seeking the truth and were not sure what Rhema really teaches, and now they know. AND it’s definitely NOT the WORD of GOD.
An article written on a blog called soulgardeners.com on the Rhema Church Billboard

Now this exegesis (let’s just call it a blog post) is more disturbing than the billboard. Hmmm…

Christian billboard – an exegesis
By Tom Smith
A church in my area uses huge billboards to advertise their church. During the last few years I have waited in eager anticipation to see what line of advertising they will come up with next. The last month has been the most interesting (interesting in this sentence is a euphemism for shocking).
The billboard (about 10 x 5 metres) has the following written on it (the size of the fonts represent the signage) …
Yes, YOU can __________________ *
* with a little help from God
This, in my mind, is a window into a specific brand of Christianity. This slogan mixes the phrase used by Barack Obama during his campaign with the self-edifice of the individual and lastly a little God-spice on the side.
When I read it for the first time I couldn’t believe my eyes. It was such a paradoxical theological statement that one must wonder if the advertising agency consulted with the pastoral staff at all!
Be that as it may, I find this advertising not just shocking for its forthrightness but also because it still mirrors so much of MY life. It is easy to bash this billboard. Harder to live a life wherein I make it my aim to make life all about God.
In this last week our community committed to praying John the Baptist’s most famous prayer. His prayer hasn’t become a famous book like the prayer of Jabez, it is not printed on coffee mugs or on T-shirts. It is a dangerous prayer and it turns the billboards propaganda on its head. John the Baptist prayed,
“He must increase, but I must decreace”
Pr(l)aying with the fonts in the billboard in mind one can definitely use the increase and decrease as a cue for font changes. The you decreases and GOD increases.
As I prayed this prayer during the week, chaos ensued. The main vehicle for the creative chaos was interruptions. My life got interrupted. These episodic pauses served to throw me of my planned days. It came in the form of people and mechanical failures which then lead to people who helped fix the mechanical failures. At first these interruptions irked me. Then I realized that there might be some whispers of an answer to the prayer. My plans were sidelined – and now, after the end of the week I feel a different kind of freedom.
Bonhoeffer once commented that,
“We must be ready to allow ourselves to be interrupted by God. God will be constantly crossing our paths and canceling our plans … sending us people with claims and petitions…. It is a strange fact that Christians and even ministers frequently consider their work so important and urgent that they will allow nothing to disturb them. They think they are doing God a service in this, but actually they are disdaining God’s ‘crooked yet straight path.'”

I love it when people use words like exegesis and it’s nothing of the sort.
Oh gosh, sorry I just realised this blog is an Emerging Church blog, that’s explains everything.
Oh Mark Prenith, love your comment on Toms Smiths article 😉 You need to most definitely work on your undercover skills, there might be a book out there on ‘how to be a contemplative spiritualist and preach at a christian church at the same time’ Oh wait you are doing that already. Sorry. My bad.
Deborah,
Why insult me? Why the constant goading? I wrote, “Well written. Who is the church? Or at least where is the intersection?”
Mark Prenith
“Well written” Yes Tom is shocked at the billboard yet goes and gives his own unbiblical views on the whole thing that is not much different to the Emergent ideas.” And then calls it an exegesis? I nearly chocked when I read it and then saw your comment. “well written”?? I pray it was his excellent writing skills and grammar only that impressed you so.
Merry Helper agrees with you on Meditation and he is into his eastern meditation. You see when you have people who are anti the Biblical Jesus Christ agree with you on occult practices and they follow a universal Christ, then you know you have a problem and need to change your ideas and re-look at what you are following. How about you pray about this situation instead of meditate.
See here for Marry Helpers agreement with you: 2009/12/25 at 1:37am
I’m amazed that one can twist the simple message of a billboard into something it clearly does not say. Such is religion… It works so hard to convince us that something is being said that isn’t.
Jayce
Please, do tell us what you think the billboard means? Or don’t you ‘think’? You just take for granted what you see must be ok because it’s on church grounds put up by a pastor?
Jayce,
Perhaps you should read between the lines instead of just reading. Let me give you one hint – this billboard is a reflection of what is happening to Christianity…enough? No? Ok, this is reducing Christianity to a motivational movement…enough? Still not? OK, having their ears tickled ring a bell? Still not??? I give up…
The church should be a light to the world; proclaiming repentance and the forgiveness of sin. Jesus came to redeeem us through the complete work of the cross. The problem is SIN, God is not some football coach.
But then again, I don’t expect a religious mind to see that.
The writer of this article is actually making money buy posting such articles. And she/he makes a lot of money by criticising a well known church like Rhema. The Online Business remember? Christians are not stupid people or gullible or naive, this article suggests that people are naive; can’t think for themselves ect; ect. As I read the article, I could not help but feel sad for the writer; yes this is a money making scheme but why can’t you choose something that will help people? If the Rhema church is teaching nonsense to stupid people as you suggest; at least when they go home, they are happy? Motivation? How does this article leave people feeling at the end of the day? I forgot, you don’t care about that; only interested on the number of people who will view your website and your income. We all have access to a bible; we can read and have a brain so if any Pastor in this world is teaching us nonsense; why are you suggesting that we will believe in it? Is that how little you think of people?
Joice
HAHAHA (rofl) WHAT? That’s is honestly the most stupid and at the same time funniest comment I have EVER HAD in the last 2 years. I don’t make a cent preaching the TRUTH. I work like a normal person and earn my daily pay. The Gospel of Jesus Christ is FREE.
Rhema makes millions selling false teaching.
Oh and why do I get into trouble for teaching the gospel but Rhema is ok to teach. Surely as per your LOGIC Rhema too then thinks everyone is stupid as well because everyone can rightly so, go and pick up their own bibles and study. Really now. Do think before you come and comment and drive more traffic to my site so I can make some more invisible money…lol.
Ok, I can’t even comment on this further it’s that ridiculous.
Joice,
Could you please explain to us exactly how this site makes money from such articles? There are no re directs, no advertising, no sponsors, zilch.
I would rather people go home really saved through true, biblical repentance and having the forgiveness of SINS through the completed work of the cross of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ…and growing in the knowledge of the truth.
I also know of many mormons and JWs that go home motivated and happy. The same applies to people leaving a Dale Carnegie lecture. What’s the difference?
I admit, the truth can be ugly.
No one is saying Rhema etc teach blatant error, it’s the dilution of the gospel that is causing concern.
Michael
I’ve heard the Dalai Lama also goes home motivated and happy. Hmmm I think I am going to add a Lama picture to my zoo. Oh no a Lama is not African…where are Lama’s from anyhow? Oh I am veering off the topic here… all that money has gone to my head ahah.
Michael
>> No one is saying Rhema etc teach blatant error..
Actually I am saying that 😉
Easy there sister, we don’t want to chase away our generous sponsors.
Joice
On “we can read and have a brain so if any Pastor in this world is teaching us nonsense; why are you suggesting that we will believe in it? Is that how little you think of people?”
Joice, consider this.It is not about having a brain, to be able to understand the Precious Word Of God. To read and understand the Word Of GOD, is a gift from God, When you are born for the 2nd time.
Quote from – A Tozer – Man The Dwelling Place of God. Chapter 4 (by the way you may read this whole book for Free online free, (so much for your comment “The writer of this article is actually making money buy posting such articles.”)
The Once-born and the Twice-born
CLASSIFICATION IS ONE OF THE MOST DIFFICULT of all tasks. Even in the realm of religion there are enough lights and shades to make it injudicious to draw too fine a line between men and men. If the religious world were composed of squares of solid black and solid white classification would be easy; but unfortunately it is not.
It is a grave error for us evangelicals to assume that the children of God are all in our communion and that all who are not associated with us are ipso facto enemies of the Lord. The Pharisees made that mistake and crucified Christ as a consequence.
With all this in mind, and leaning over backwards to be fair and charitable, there is yet one distinction which we dare make, which indeed we must make if we are to think the thoughts of God after Him and bring our beliefs into harmony with the Holy Scriptures. That distinction is the one which exists between two classes of human beings, the once-born and the twice-born.
That such a distinction does in fact exist was taught by our Lord with great plainness of speech, in contexts which preclude the possibility that He was merely speaking figuratively. “Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God,” He said, and the whole chapter where these words are found confirms that He was speaking precisely, setting forth meanings as blunt and downright as it is possible for language to convey.
“Ye must be born again,” said Christ. “That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.” This clear line of demarcation runs through the entire New Testament, quite literally dividing one human being from another and making a distinction as sharp as that which exists between different genera of the animal kingdom.
Just who belongs to one class and who to the other it is not always possible to judge, though the two kinds of life ordinarily separate from each other. Those who are twice-born crystallize around the Person of Christ and cluster together in companies, while the once-born are held together only by the ties of nature, aided by the ties of race or by common political and social interests.
Our Lord warned His disciples that they would be persecuted. “In the world ye shall have tribulation,” He said, and “Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.”
These are only two of many passages of the New Testament warning of persecution or recording the fact of harassment and attack suffered by the followers of the Lord. This same idea runs through the entire Bible from the once-born Cain who slew the twice-born Abel to the Book of the Revelation where the end of human history comes in a burst of blood and fire.
That hostility exists between the once-born and the twice-born is known to every student of the Bible; the reason for it was stated by Christ when He said, “If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.” The rule was laid down by the apostle Paul when he wrote, “But as then he that was born after the flesh persecuted him that was born after the Spirit, even so it is now.”
Difference of moral standards between the onceborn and the twice-born, and their opposite ways of life, may be contributing causes of this hostility; but the real cause lies deeper. There are two spirits abroad in the earth: the spirit that works in the children of disobedience and the Spirit of God. These two can never be reconciled in time or in eternity. The spirit that dwells in the once-born is forever opposed to the Spirit that inhabits the heart of the twice-born. This hostility began somewhere in the remote past before the creation of man and continues to this day. The modern effort to bring peace between these two spirits is not only futile but contrary to the moral laws of the universe.
To teach that the spirit of the once-born is at enmity with the Spirit of the twice-born is to bring down upon one’s head every kind of violent abuse. No language is too bitter to hurl against the conceited bigot who would dare to draw such a line of distinction between men. Such malignant ideas are at odds with the brotherhood of man, says the once-born, and are held only by the apostles of disunity and hate. This mighty rage against the twice-born only serves to confirm the truth they teach. But this no one seems to notice.
What we need to restore power to the Christian testimony is not soft talk about brotherhood but an honest recognition that two human races occupy the earth simultaneously: a fallen race that sprang from the loins of Adam and a regenerate race that is born of the Spirit through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus.
To accept this truth requires a tough-mindedness and a spiritual maturity that modern Christians simply do not possess. To face up to it hardly contributes to that “peace of mind” after which our religious weaklings bleat so plaintively.
For myself, I long ago decided that I would rather know the truth than be happy in ignorance. If I cannot have both truth and happiness, give me truth. We’ll have a long time to be happy in heaven.
Blessings
I am very very angry with that sign. LITTLE. My GOD does not supply LITTLE. I am so angry I have asked GOD to take out that sign with a lighting bolt. How dare they do that and how dare they use GODS word to make themselves richer. Now I have Righteous anger. I shall have to go and ask GOD for forgiveness. My thoughts are bad thoughts as I type this and my wishes are bad ones. Ray is treading on a very fine line. If anyone from this site blogs here who goes to Rhema get out while you can.Who does he think he is? Best I go and take a walk.
louise
The sign is down now, but not because they realised it was not Christian. It came down after Ray’s divorce. Now on the other side of the road you have a big travelling advert for the mighty men conference 2010.
disecting the billboard to shreds to say what you want. GEEESSSS. come on, that’s a wee bit farfetched now. soon you’ll shred gospel songs and tell all em singers their lyrics are satanic and so are they…
I agree with Tom (last poster)
I am an attender of Rhema. Not only do I attend but I also work for the church itself. I have worked for other churches and can honestly say that Rhema is the ONE church where I have felt the most at home.
Not many people realise or know that Ps Ray went through a heart attack, triple bypass surgery this year and has spent the last 6 odd months recovering.
You’re dissecting the sign to fuel your dislike for Rhema. The “Believe Belong Become” motto of Rhema actually means, “Believe in Christ, Belong to the Body of Christ, Become all who God made you to be.”
Above all, Rhema puts Jesus FIRST. If you went to the church, you’d plainly see that.
Please don’t try and be all super-spiritual. You’re seeing issues where none exist.
Do you honestly think that Rhema would still be existing if Ps Ray wasnt being lead by the Holy Spirit? As for his divorces, he’s HUMAN – that’s not an excuse, but just because he’s a pastor doesn’t make him perfect. We all make mistakes, but Jesus gives us His grace to move on and continue in Him.
God bless you, I hope that your view on Rhema changes, because the church in itself is a powerful tool to reach nations and the lost unsaved for Christ.
Chiron
zzz ZZZ zzz ZZZ zzz ZZZ zzz heard it all before… the problem is you sit with blinkers on Chiron. Taken them off and look around you.
Chiron, you said:
Do you honestly think that Rhema would still be existing if Ps Ray wasnt being lead by the Holy Spirit? As for his divorces, he’s HUMAN – that’s not an excuse, but just because he’s a pastor doesn’t make him perfect. We all make mistakes, but Jesus gives us His grace to move on and continue in Him.
Chiron, there are MULTITUDES of false teachers and cults that FLOURISH and they CERTIANLY are not led by the Holy Spirit.
Also, the BIBLE is very CLEAR about qualifications for pastors. Check it out. The oastorate is a higher calling and therefore a higher standard for leadership positions.
Copeland ministries are still existing… they are not lead by the Spirit
God uses The wicked to fulfill His purpose. Ask Job.
Hi D!!.. still here daily
Heyaaaa Robbie
Yippeeee to see you are still here.
Deborah,
Just for interest sake…what church do you attend?
Ruan
Not Rhema…
By her testimony, Deborah is a member of the Body of Christ, the Bride of Christ and the Church of the Redeemed. THAT is THE Church with a BIG C that I also belong to and that every true, born-again believer belongs to. And true believers will not remain in the Rhema groups or any other group that teaches falsely. Ruan, you had better examine where you are and seek God and His Word for the truth and be sure of your salvation, that you are following the true Gospel!
The Church is not an organization but an organism.
One can not add oneself to the church. (This is legalism and works)
God adds believers to the Church (This is salvation)
Act 2:47 Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved
Chiron.
When I was a “Christian” I thought as you think now – I was just as gullible; in fact, even as a Christian I used to say that the most gullible people in the world are Christians.
As for Debs attending a church, I hope not – I cannot find a scripturally based church in South Africa, especially Rhema.
If someone knows of such a church, please let me know where it is.
P.S. – Also still here often.
Chris, thank you for an excellent and simple explanation. Yes, we do meet in groups locally for fellowship and teaching, but these days there is often not a safe place in which one can plug in. That does not mean that such are forsaking the assembling together as some accuse them of doing. Some are hurting greatly because they desire fellowship but it is not available. This is actually suffering for the sake of Christ.
Paul
For now you can join my new little online community where you can do whatever you want too and hopefully meet some people soon in your area to fellowship with. http://www.discernmentforafrica.com/
this is all bla bla bla we all need Christ. (period).
